The Pistoia Alliance Sequence Squeeze contest is open to anyone and has a US$15,000 prize fund. Will iPad adopt Android?

Myriad Group, the global leader in mobile technology, which has shipped over 3.8 billion applications on over 2.2 billion phones, believes that very soon the world may see Android application running on an iPad.

According to CNET, Myriad Group will unveil Android apps running happily on an iPad for the first time at the CTIA 2011 conference in San Diego. Myriad Group will use Alien Dalvik 2.0 to make this happen. The software was, however, originally used for Nokia's MeeGo operating system.

Steve Jobs: an open source pioneer?

Well! Paula Rooney believes so. To support her statement, Rooney describes that apple had made Darwin available in 2000 that that incorporated code from NextStep, BSD and other free software projects, she quote Wikipedia.

Rooney further explains that Apple’s 10-year-old Mac OS X is a closed source operating system with open source components as it based on Darwin.

HP chooses Ubuntu for its public cloud

Hewlett-Packard Company, which is commonly referred as HP, at last week's OpenStack Conference in Boston, has been reported to have announced that it will select the Ubuntu Linux distribution as the operating system to power its Public Cloud.

The announcement was made by Canonical CEO Jane Silber, who made it a point that Ubuntu is a good choice for OpenStack clouds as it is both flexible and scalable as a guest OS, while also being a secure host system.

Intel, Samsung and Nokia to develop new open source mobile OS platforms

 Intel along with Samsung and the Linux Foundation is all set to rebrand its open source platform – MeeGo as Tizen.

The first release of Tizen and its SDK is expected in the first quarter of 2012.

Intel has been reported to have commented, "Tizen builds upon the strengths of both LiMo and MeeGo, and Intel will be working with our MeeGo partners to help them transition to Tizen.”
